I Am Woman Here Me Roar

Some women claim to have been the greatest parent to their child/children while holding down two and three jobs.  If this is possible it would be equally fair for other women to claim they have really excelled in their career outside the home while they were busy being a full-time, stay-at-home mom.  The truth is you cannot be in two places at the same time and where you choose to focus your energy is where you will excel.  If you want to be the best parent it will require your time and energy at home just like if you want to excel in your career you must put time in at the office.  A part-time parent gets part-time results just as a part-time to non-existent career will give you part-time to nonexistent benefits, promotions and recognition in the work force.  There is no right answer as to which you choose. It all depends on what feels right for you. Spending time as a full-time mom will reap huge benefits with regards to your children on the other hand carving your path in the work-force will contribute tremendously towards the advancement of women (equal rights and equal pay) in the professional world.  Both are noble causes although I often hear women who work outside the home talk with the attitude that “they have it all”. The truth is neither side has it all. What you do have is what you put your attention on… a great career with continuing advancement or children infused with the best of everything you have to give them to go out in the world and make a difference.  Women will help the advancement of gender equality faster when they acknowledge the accomplishments of one another instead of trying to impress the world with their superhero powers that end up pitting them against each other. Respect your sisters and support the choices they make. This will go a long way in bridging the gap of self-righteous judgment that you may be imposing on other women. Together we help make the world go round. #Imjustsayin #choosewhatmakesyouhappy ~ Raine Vance ©2013
